PostSubject: Skimming Stones at Number 1 - Can It Really Be True?   Sat Mar 14 2009, 17:31

After the recent success of Seftons single 'RICKS SEAT' being played on BBC National Radio via the Tom Robinson 6 Music Show I dreamt that the reaction to it was fantastic ! So much so that SKIMMING STONES started selling like Hot cakes and when I walked into my local TESCO store there is was, SEFTON a NEW Entry at #1 ! ..But then I woke up Sad
Have you had a similar experience?
Eg Going to bed after being blown by the online performance and hadn't switched off from it?
SEFTON at #1 , IS it REALLY True ? Maybe it wasn't a Dream? See photo below! Share your experiences and photo's Smile

Ha ha ha ha ha Thanks Andy! This is class!

Never thought I'd see the day that my album was above U2 in the charts .... ha ha ha ha Ain't photoshop a marvellous thing! Ha ha ha

Tell you what ... perhaps I should go and live in your dream, wonder what that would be like?!

The funny thing is that all that level of success frightens the life out of me and I am not sure it is really desirable. Just being able to live as I do where I do and make records for people like you and my other supporters is enough for me. I will always be proud of the fact that my music has attracted and brought me into contact with such lovely people, THATS what it is all about for me. THE great thing about music is that there is room for everyone and every kind it just so happens that my supporters are the coolest people on the planet, thats all! Ha ha ha

God I am a lucky man.

Hi Sefton
Thanks for the message. NO I didn't use photoshop , I actually took the album into the Tesco store popped it on the shelve and took some photos. Yes ,it brought some reality to my dream! I got a few strange looks and heard whispers behind me from staff, strange when you take a camera out and start taking snaps that they think your some kinda industrial spy?! I've gone past caring to be honest and that store have put enough retailers out of buisness particularly music shops! Power to Independents! Smile

It would have been tempting to have left it there. SKIMMING STONES is too precious a commodity to put in a shopping basket or trolley with tins of beans etc LOL

Your very humble regarding your music in terms of not wanting to seek any fame, it would be great if the album did have some commercial success in order to recover the high costs of recording and enable you to finance your next project? Do you intend to try and get some distributers involved?

It is much more fun to be a fan on of Independent artists as its more personal and you feel 'a part of the music' they make, does that sound daft?

I just wondered if Tom Robinson follows up on artists he plays? May he perhaps play you again in the future?
Yeah one day mate you could be #1 on the charts though it may involve you having to play live on the top of the BBC Studio to gain publicity like U2 did! I feel another dream coming on, I better go and have a lie down and keep taking the tablets. Happy Sunday to you & Charlie

Thats excellent Andy! You should have just printed off the cd case a couple of times and actually left those in tescos (print the myspace/website addy on the back) Cool my wee brain is turning.

When a local artist here was just breaking into the music industry & released and album, myself and a few others went to all the music stores and found the cd's then placed them all over the walls of the shop, just like you did with Seftons cd Very Happy

its great exposure - just dont get caught ninja

Hi Paula
Your a rebel too it seems! Is SEFTON aware that the "such lovely" he speaks about may not be all that he's implying? maybe he wasn't thinking of you and I at the time? So you photocopied album covers and stuck them on the music store wall with U TACK ?! yay! I suppose you could do the same in your prison cell if you did happen to get caught?

Hey my brain is turning, Paula you have prompted a thought x Here is something LEGAL that SEFTON can do to get in a music store and sell his CD's. Twice now in my BORDERS bookstore I have seen 2 Independent artists playing in there at several times over the course of a day / evening. One of these was a songwriting workshop by a guitarist. She played 4 songs live then people who had brought their guitars with them could carry on speaking with her and learning techniques. This artist actually toured the UK playing Borders bookshops would you believe!
The second one I saw was really great last summer it was an "Album Launch" by a local young Bournemouth duo/group called TINDERBOX ( they head to Scotland in April) . They played 4 separate 30mins sets during the day. They were able to sell their new CD which were bar coded by the store so you paid for them at the counter. This is a great idea and attracts people who came in just browsing.
What about it Mr S? Could you try this in Oxford and beyond?
Here is a photo I took last year to give you an idea? I imagine this would be perfect for you, Charlie & Steve? We could all go for a guiness in between the playing times so the performances improve as the day progresses?

Hey Andy, No I didnt photo copy the album and left them on the walls. The album is already on sale in the music shop but it has such a little space on a rack that you could easily miss... I would take some of the cd's from the small space and place them all over the wall rack.

Blaring the cd from the car in the car park before going into the festivals is always a good idea too cherry
